Walnut Scones2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter
2/3 to 3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup walnuts, choppedHeat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease cookie sheets.In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda; blend well. Using fork or pastry blender, cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and walnuts; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.Drop by heaping teaspoonsful 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Serve warm.Yield: 30 sconesHigh Altitude...Above 3500 feet: Decrease baking powder to 1 1/2 teaspoons; increase buttermilk to 3/4 cup plus 1 to 2 tablespoons. Bake as directed above.
